L'illa de Benidorm

L'Illa, nicknamed 'the isle of the journalists', in spite of being a small island, is considered to be an eminently characteristic part of the bay of Benidorm. Many myths have come about regarding the island's origin related to the giant Roldán. Legend has it that the giant fell in love with a beautiful dame. However, she became ill and the only thing that seemed to delay her fate was the sun's rays. The giant, Roldán, in an act of desperation, struck a blow at the mountain Puig Campana (the gap in the summit is highly visible and well-known) and the chunk of rock fell into the sea forming the island 'L'illa de Benidorm', so delaying sunset for a few minutes. However, the fatal moment arrived and Roldán carried his loved one's dead body to the island and allowed himself to drown with her without once letting go of her hand.
