Xalet Bonet: Modernism in Salou – opposite the esplanade

At the start of the beautiful, wide esplanade Passeig de Jaume I (see: Jaume I monument) you can find several pretty villas from the modernist era. Students of the famous architect Antoní Gaudí sketched those splendid buildings with their respective gardens just a few steps away from the beach. Among them, the Xalet Bonet designed by the architect Domènec Sugranyes i Gras in the year 1918 really stands out.

This mansion with its emblematic sundial on its façade can be seen from the sea. It is supposed that everyone in Salou knows the maxim written above it: “Make the most of your time, as it passes and doesn’t return.”

Xalet Bonet and its neighbouring buildings are worth a look and not just for fans of architecture.
