Boqueria market Barcelona

The largest, most colourful market in Barcelona is right next to the Ramblas in a market hall dating from the 19th century.
The location of the Boqueria, its range of products and the stallholders, many of them the 3rd or 4th generation to run their stalls, make the Boqueria a must for all visitors to Barcelona. However, not only tourists come here, the Boqueria is heaven on earth for gourmets and world famous top chefs.
The first written records of a market in the area show that tables already stood here in the year 1217, for the purpose of selling meat. In the year 1914 the market was inaugurated as the Boqueria with the iron roof we can see today.
The Boqueria, also known as Mercat de Sant Josep, is closely linked with Barcelona’s history and traditions.
The wide-ranging, colourful display of products in the Boqueria ranges from all kinds of fish, meat, game, vegetables, fruit, freshly-baked bread, salads, frozen products and poultry to home-made sausage and much, much more. Different restaurants inside the Boqueria invite you to take a culinary break in Barcelona.
