Sant Vincenç Church Tossa

The Església de Sant Vicenç church was built in the 18th century in the Vila Nova or New Town. Because of the expansion of the town beyond the Vila Vella de Tossa and the increasing population, the old Església Vella de Sant Vicenç whose ruins can still be seen in the Old Town, was no longer adequate. For this reason, the foundation stone for this neoclassical construction was laid in 1755 (completed in 1776).
Although the church is unostentatious in its appearance, the size of its central aisle is impressive. Inside there is a beautiful Roman font. Unfortunately, some of the original works of art, some of which came from the old church, were destroyed during the Spanish Civil War (1936 - 1939) or went missing forever. Recently the paintings were restored and the original splendour reinstated.
