Restaurants Tossa de Mar

In Tossa’s Old Town, the  Vila Vella de Tossa, along the promenade of the Playa Gran and the nearby narrow streets, there are a large number of top quality restaurants with good atmosphere serving traditional and modern cuisine: tapas bars, fish and shellfish restaurants, restaurants with traditional Catalan cuisine, as well as restaurants with international fare - here you will find something to suit everyone's taste. It is best to form your own opinion of what is on offer, rather than allow yourself to be convinced by the restaurant salesmen.

The lunch menu - "menu del dia" - served weekdays in nearly all restaurants costs between 12 and 20 €. Though a little more expensive than in other towns on the Costa Brava, this is still good value for money. The menu usually consists of a starter, main course, drinks and dessert. Take a walk around to find the best restaurants.

In the restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the walls, in the area around the Carrer Portal street which leads to the Cala Codolar beach, you will pay a small price premium because of the beautiful location. Inside the walls it is generally a bit more expensive. However, there is good reason for this: it is a privileged location with an unbelievable atmosphere and a romantic air. You can still enjoy a highly romantic dinner in the evening on the promenade with a view of the illuminated city walls of the Vila Vella Tossa.

Tossa de Mar was originally a typical fishing village which is why so many restaurants have fish and shellfish at the top of their menus: e.g. grilled fish and shellfish, prawns, mussels, rice dishes with fish, and fish stews.

The best known dish in Tossa de Mar is cim-i-tomba, the fisherman's favourite fish stew with potatoes, all i oli (Catalan garlic sauce) and vegetables. One culinary event in particular, held in September – the Campaña Gastronómica del Cim-i-Tomba - is entirely dedicated to this dish so it is without doubt Tossa’s speciality. As with other fish dishes such as zarzuela and paella, cim - i tomba has to be ordered for 2 people. Another dish typical to Tossa is langosta al estilo de Tossa, which is lobster cooked in Tossa style.

The following culinary events take place in Tossa de Mar:
