Restaurants Lloret

Lloret de Mar has an extensive number of restaurants on offer. Many restaurants in the centre of town can be classified in the lower price range: i.e. takeaways and fastfood restaurants. There are also some very nice fish restaurants, restaurants serving typical Catalan cuisine with lovely terraces and there are what are known as “Chiringuitos” – beach restaurants which serve fish, meat, snacks and tapas at reasonable prices. On weekdays the best option is the lunch menu which is available in almost all restaurants. The lunch menu, menu del día, usually includes a starter, a main course, drinks and a desert, and on value for money it is unbeatable.

In Lloret de Mar there are also some important culinary events which are highly recommended to those who appreciate good food: the Jornades Gastronômiques de l' Arròs and the Jornades de la cuina de l'Art.

Jornades Gastronômiques de l' Arròs
This event, which takes place in April, is all about rice. During this month various restaurants in Lloret offer a wide range of rice dishes for tasting: these include traditional dishes as well as inventive and novelty recipes. A number of hotels also embrace this theme and put on special menus for their guests.
Jornades de la cuina de l'Art
At this culinary event in October "the Art-Kitchen" fish and seafood take centre stage. The term “Art”, in this sense, has nothing to do with painting but denotes a traditional fishing technique, tirada a l'art, which was used on the Costa Brava  up until the 1960s, mainly on Cala Canyelles beach. Here the fisherman would throw out their nets just a few metres from the beach. This meant that they would mainly catch lots of smaller fish. One famous Art-dish is Arrôs de l'Art, which is rice with various small fish, squid or cuttlefish, onions, garlic, tomatoes and wine. This dish used to be very popular amongst fishermen who would prepare and eat this rice with their daily catch down on the beach. During this month a number of restaurants and hotels base their menus on the motto "Art-Kitchen".

Another important event is the medieval market Feria Medieval where typical products from the region can be tested and purchased. It is held as part of the Winter Festival, Fiesta Mayor de Invierno in mid-November.
