Empuriabrava’s main attraction is without doubt its marina – the harbour and canals that intersect the main part of the city.
When the Empuriabrava marina was planned on the drawing board in the mid-1960s, the architects set out to make it the largest marina in Europe. The planned the canals, harbour and residential areas to blend together successfully.
Most of the houses can be reached by water or from the land – something to make the heart of any weekend sailor race. You can sail from the jetties that are almost in the gardens behind the houses through the canals and harbour and into the open sea. The atmosphere in the canals is idyllic and peaceful. Many small boats and large yachts are moored between the single- and multi-family homes and the luxurious villas. The canal landscape, the highlight of Empuriabrava, is best discovered from the water. You can either take a boat trip (trips start on the canal at Av. Joan Carles I and Avda. del Canal) or you can also rent a boat yourself to chug around the canals. You don’t even need a boat license.
As the largest marina in Europe, Empuriabrava also has a major yacht harbour. If you want to see every conceivable kind of water traffic, go to the harbour, make yourself comfortable at the entrance and watch the boats and yachts come and go every second. What a spectacle!
