Iberian Excavation Site

Poblado Iberic de Puig de Castellet, Poblat Iberic de Montbarbat and Poblat Iberic Turó Rodó

Iberian excavation site Poblat Ibèric de Puig de Castellet
One of three Iberian excavation sites in Lloret de Mar. This small settlement from the 3rd century B.C. was supposedly an outpost for the larger Montbarbat Iberian settlement located further inland. Due to its strategic position on the hill, the sea and surrounding land were monitored from this battlement installation. Even today  you can still make out the outline of the houses and workshops.

Iberian excavation site Poblat Ibèric Montbarbat
With an area spanning approx. 5,700 m2, this is Lloret de Mar's largest excavation site. It is, however, located inland, approx. 13 km from Lloret town centre. This Iberian settlement is surrounded by walls and defense towers. Streets, houses and other buildings, such as provision camps, from the 4th-3rd century B.C. have been discovered. Several ceramic findings provide evidence of human-life from the early ice age.
