This medieval castle from the 11th century originally served as a line of defense against pirates, the Turks, the English and the French, and was presumably in use up until the 17th century. All that remains now is a tower which was restored in 1992. The bulk of it was destroyed in 1805 by a British warship during the war which pitted England against France and Spain.
