Can Magí Tower Tossa

The Torre Can Magi Tower, also called Torre dels Moros (Moors Tower), is an extension of the Vila Vella de Tossa and fortifications of Tossa dating back to the 12 -14th centuries.
Felipe II had the Torre de Can Magi watchtower erected up on the hill in the 16th century to defend the population against attack from North African pirates. All towers within the fortifications were permanently occupied by guards who were in contact with one another. In times of danger the population was warned to seek shelter inside the city walls.
The Can Magi Tower lies on a hill just outside of Tossa from where you have a wonderful view of the Old Town and the sea. Unfortunately the tower can only be viewed from the outside so it is not worth a trip just to see the tower itself, because better maintained, more interesting examples can be found in the town centre. However, the view is truly beautiful and close by is a signposted vantage point - Mirador - from where you can see the whole of Tossa.

Access:

Distance from centre of Tossa de Mar: approx. 800 m from the centre, located nearly at the end of Carrer Tarull street

On foot: This visit fits in well with the visits to the Roman excavation site Villa Romana des Ametllers and the typical Catalan farmhouse Mas Rabassa (both of these being in the Carrer del Guardia street). From there it is only another 500 metres or so uphill to the Torre de Can Magi Tower. Signs reading "Torre dels Moros" point you in the right direction. On the way, you can make a small detour to the Mirador vantage point which is also signposted.

By car: easily accessible by car, just follow the signs (see above).

Parking: There is a car park and many other parking facilities.
