Can Comes

Can Comes beach is the most southerly of the city’s beaches and is part of the unique nature conservation area of Aiguamolls (wetlands). At the northern end of the beach, the Riu Muga shifts its mouth every year by a few metres in one or other direction. Just before the river mouth and a few metres from the sea is a small lake where novice surfers can try their luck and build on their initial success. The beach extends to the end of the nature conservation area. The mouth of the Riu Fluvià lies at its southern end. That is where the northern end of the Sant Pere Pescador beach leads to Sant Pere Pescador.

Can Comes beach is a very beautiful, endlessly long natural sand beach which, at some 3,800 m, is ideal for long walks. A walk into the Aiguamolls wetlands is also recommended. They run the entire length of the beach and are home to numerous bird species, including storks and flamingos.

Part of the beach is closed in winter and spring to protect the flora and fauna in the wetlands.

There is also an official nudist area on Can Comes beach.

Access Can Comes Beach:

Distance to the centre of Empuriabrava: The beach starts directly at the southern end of the city.

By car: The northern end starts right at Empuriabrava’s beach promenade (you have to cross the Muga River on foot, but this is not normally a problem as the water is shallow. Otherwise, there is a pedestrian bridge a little way inland.). The southern end of the beach can be reached via the town of Sant Pere Pescador.
